Mountain Gods Peru has established CUSI RUNAQ WASIN, a cooperative of women weavers, dedicated exclusively to widows, single mothers, and divorced women. This initiative aims to create employment and income opportunities by selling their crafts and food within the community. The proceeds generated from these sales are used to support their families and purchase supplies for their children. A visit to CUSI RUNAQ WASIN offers an immersive experience into the ancient weaving techniques, culture, traditions, and rich history of the community.
Our engagement with this project transcends mere tourism; it represents a commitment to sustainable practices and community empowerment.
We believe that our visit to this project will not only alter the way visitors perceive travel but also leave a positive impact on the lives of local women. Through our commitment to sustainable tourism, we are actively contributing to the community.
Christmas with Elderly women.
Annually, the Mountain Gods Peru team hosts a Christmas celebration for the elderly women of the Pukamarca Cuper Chinchero community. The event includes festive treats such as appetizers, hot chocolate, Christmas cake, and other traditional dishes. Each woman receives a personalized gift, often comprising household supplies. For many of these women, this gesture holds significant meaning, as it may be their only Christmas gift.
Support for schools in remote Andean communities
Mountain Gods Peru extends support to local schools by providing essential supplies to students. These supplies include textbooks, notebooks, writing implements, paper, crayons, and various other necessities. Additionally, we encourage our travelers to contribute by bringing school supplies, toothbrushes, and other essentials, which we distribute to students in Pukamarca and other small Andean communities encountered during our excursions.
