The Sacred Valley of the Incas is a one-hour drive from Cusco and a landscape of stunning scenery, picturesque communities, impressive terraces, archaological sites, and majestic mountain ranges. The valley includes the area between the Inca communities of Pisac and Ollantaytambo.

The picturesque vibrant market town of Pisac is the site of the magnificent Inca Sun Temple. Divided into four sections: Pisaqa, Qallaqasa, Kinchiracay, and Intihuatana; the Sun Temple is located in the Intihuatana section. It is said to contain a hitching post to which the sun can be tied during its journey across the sky.

One theory also suggests that the temple served astronomical purposes for Inca priests. Pisac’s artisan market attracts both thousands of visitors and people from remote communities dressed in colorful, traditional attire. Although the market is largest on Sunday, it is there every day of the week.

Sacred Valley Tour – Itinerary

This full day excursion takes you back in time to the Sacred Valley of incas.

We will pick you up from your Hotel in Cusco at 7:30 a.m and then set off towards the Sacred Valley of the incas.Leaving Cusco, we will pass by Saqsayhuaman, Pucapucara and Tambomachay and head over the mountains before descending 1,500 ft to the bottom of the valley. we will find ourselves beside the sacred Urubamba or willcamayu river and the picturesque village of Pisac.

In Pisaq we will visit the colorful traditional market, where you can browse the array of local artisan work, which of course you can buy to take home with you. We will spend 30 minutes here, and then head up to the inca site of Pisac which sits atop a hill at the entrance.

At the Pisac archaeological site, we will explore the extensive ruins and enjoy the breathtaking views across the valley. You will be given a guided tour of he site, passing through various structures that once served as homes, storage rooms, water fountains, carvings, agricultural terraces and so on.

Then we will head on towards Urubamba town, where we will stop for about 45 minutes for lunch. After another 30-minute drive, we will reach the wonderful inca town Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo was the royal state of the inca emperor Pachacuteq who conquered the region and built the town.

We will spend about 1 hour exploring this magnificent ruins, visiting the amazing temple of the sun and seeing massive blocks of rocks that were perfectly carved and polished by master inca stonemasons.

Ollantaytambo is also a fine example of inca agricultural construction and hydro engineering with a complex series of water fountains, channels and agricultural terraces.

We will see the extent of the water system when we return to the town, where fast flowing water channels built by the incas are still in use today.

After Ollantaytambo, we will drive to Chinchero (known as rainbow town) where we will spend about 45 minutes visiting the massive inca stone walls in the main plaza, which has trapezoidal niches. The colonial church, meanwhile, dates back to the early 17th century and was built upon the foundations of an inca temple or palace.

The people of Chinchero are very much connected to the old traditions and many still dress in colorful clothes that combine indigenous and spanish influences. We will also have wonderful views from town as the village is surrounded by impressive snowy-capped mountains.

This is the last destination on our Sacred Valley tour, now it is time to head back to Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel.

Beautiful Experience Thank you post - To the amazing team from @mountaingods who made the Ausangate trek via Sibinacocha to Rainbow Mountains possible. Trek lead - Ronnie - you told us stories andorganized an amazing trek, we got the best of the support staff and beautiful campsites and good gear. Adjusted the campsites everyday such that the climbs happened in the morning when I was my fittest. Trusting me to complete the trek even after when I was just on fluids for a whole day.. The food was awesome and sumptuous - with Peruvians heritage even though we are vegetarians.Sadly -lcould not do justice to it. Thank you and sorry - Caramello - wish we could exchange more than the 3to 4 Spanish phrases. Hernandez brothers alwaysensured we were well taken care of. Mountain Gods Peru-The Best I’ve been to the top of Kilimanjaro and to Everest Base camp and this was the best of all. We did Salkantay pass to Machu Picchu and added on a hike to Rainbow mountains. Ronnie and Sylvia were awesome. Ronnie has so much knowledgable, I learned so much about the flora and fauna of Peru. I definitely have to give a shout out to Sylvia. She was always there with a smile and words of encouragement and of course to take the perfect picture. Their food was so good, which is needed at higher elevations because it can be hard to find an appetite. Presentation rivals fine restaurants. It was amazing what the cooks did on the trail. What separates Mountain Gods Peru from other tours I’ve taken-hot water bottles on cold nights. Totally unexpected but much appreciated. Also, sleeping bag liners and camp pillows. I was shocked at these comforts. It was the first I had heard of a company having these niceties. I can’t express how much I appreciated this. Also, the tents were top notch and in great shape.
