Andahuaylillas
Andahuaylillas considered as the “Sistine Chapel of America”. It was built by the Jesuits Order at the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century. Its architectural structure is typical for small towns, churches. Its walls are wide, typical for the colonial buildings, made with sun dried bricks of mud, a facade decorated with the magnificent murals and two stone columns projected towards the main entrance.
Although its ‘architecture is relatively simple and the inside decoration is unique and impressive. We can first mention a picture of the “Virgin assumption”, painted by the Spanish historical painter Esteban Murillo.
You will also see wall paintings attributed to Luís de Riaño (17th century)
Piquillacta
We will continue with the journey towards the Pre-Inca archaeological site of Piquillacta where we will explore and enjoy the huge urban planning of the pre-Inca Wari culture, stunning surrounding mountains, lakes and much more.
Meaning ‘the Place of the Flea,’ Piquillacta is the only major pre-Inca ruin in the area. Built around AD 1100 by the Wari culture, it’s a large ceremonial center of crumbling two-story buildings, all with entrances that are strategically located on the upper floor, surrounded by a defensive wall. The stonework here is much cruder than that of the Incas, and the floors and walls were paved with slabs of white gypsum, of which you can still see traces.
Tipon.
We will see the best Inca hydraulic water work system.
The Tipon ruins are one of the most beautiful and closest archaeological centers of the City of Cusco. The archaeological complex is made up of different enclosures, Andean terraces, platforms, irrigation works, and much more. If you are looking for a different and new way to explore the Imperial City, the tour that includes the ruins of Tipon may be the one for you. It is one of the least visited and most underrated sites in the entire Sacred Valley.
Finally we head back to the village of Tipon which is characterized by the sale of baked guinea pig, typical dish of the region of Cusco where we will stop to taste it and then back to Cusco hotel.
